YR Axxess - Seven Wk 2

Youthrock returned Jan 26th after being off for 2 weeks due to weather. We continued on with the series called "SEVEN" which is the Seven Core Values of Youthrock Teen Ministries. The First week we focused on Purity and Passion. This last weds night we focused on Perseverance and Prayer. Perseverance is a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. Pastor Mike took his text from 1 Kings 17:17-24. It talks about a woman's son getting sick and he continued to grow worse and worse. The son eventually died and Elijah the prophet comes and the woman says "O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?" Elijah said "Give me your son." He takes the body and carries him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed. Elijah then cries out to God saying "O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?" Elijah stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, "O Lord my God, please let this child's life return to him." The Lord heard Elijah's prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived! Elijah then brought him down stairs and gave him to his mother. "Look, your son is alive!" said Elijah. Then the woman told Elijah "Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you."

This is an incredible story about persevering and the power of prayer! The first thing to point out is that Elijah asked for the son. In other words ask for a generation. Because of the prayers over the lives of students, peers, family members, people and so on it will make all the difference. Secondly take this generation to a place of prayer. Elijah took the son to a place upstairs to pray to God over this child. He didn't pray for selfish things he prayed over this child for this woman. He was focused on someone else, not on himself. We need to focus on others. 3rd is to cry out for this generation. Elijah cried out in prayer over this child. 4th Cover this generation in continual prayers. Elijah continued to pray covering over this child 3 times. He persevered while praying for God to move. 5th Pray for this generation to be revived! Elijah prayed for this child to be revived and come back to life. Our generation today needs to be revived in the spirit of God and of truth. They need to be awaken from the lies of the enemy and awaken the greatness within them that they are called with a great purpose in their lives. 6th Expect God to hear you and respond with a revival of a generation. Notice that God recognized and know Elijah's name. In the text it said he heard Elijah's prayer and he responded to it. He knows you! And finally 7th Return your generation revived and alive to their families. Elijah brought the child back to his mother alive and revived all through the power of prayer and perseverance.

Imagine if you prayed like Elijah, how would things be different? Praying for others instead of yourself. Crying out to God til he hears your prayers. Continually praying and seeking God for a miracle to take place. Sometimes we get caught up in our own mess and in our own situations and focus on ourselves more than we focus on others. Whens the last time you prayed for someone else instead of yourself. I know we have our own personal needs but others have needs too. Consider praying for others first before you pray for yourself. Don't just stop praying but continually pray until God answers back and he will answer back. I will leave you with this text:
2 Chronicles 7:14 “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.16 For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.”
