Seven week 2 Perseverance Prayer

1. Being tested through perseverance.

1 Samuel 17:38-40 (NLT) "Then Saul gave David his own armor-a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. [39] David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. "I can't go in these," he protested to Saul. "I'm not used to them." So David took them off again. [40] He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd's bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd's staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine."

·       Other peoples armor doesnt protect you, it paralyzes you.

o     God will teach you, train you, bring you through every battle and situation but He will not do that through a class or course but personal situations, personal battles, personal training.

·       As I have been through tough times in my own personal life God has used those moments to teach me about perseverance. I choose to learn from those moments, I choose to understand the big picture of the plan of God for my life.

o     If God has a plan, and I believe He does, the experiencing every moment of it, then learning is my purpose.

§       I will never learn anything if I always run away from the test.

§       I will never learn anything if I just wiggle my way out of every problem.

§       I will never learn anything of value if I don't stay in the heat of the situation/battle. Ive always said, "The tougher the battle the greater the purpose."

·       Man God has a plan for me.

·       His purpose is so great.

1 Timothy 6:11 (NLT) "But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness."

2. Pray don't just say prayers.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT) "I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. [2] Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. [3] This is good and pleases God our Savior, [4] who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth."

·       Pray for all people.

o     You pray.

o     Have a mindset for others.

o     Have a mindset for the good of others.

§       Don't be selfish about the blessings of God.

§       If someone is being blessed be happy for them it's their season.

§       Your season in God doesn't happen daily, it's seasonal.

§       Embrace it when it moves upon you.

·       Intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.

o     Intercede-To act in behalf of someone in difficulty or trouble.

o     Stepping up for others.

§       Talking to God for others about others who are in difficulty that's selfless!

§       Helping others through their worst trials will make you so many friends.

o     Real friends don't let friends live life alone.

·       The bible teaches us that this is good and that it pleases God. That's powerful.

1 Peter 3:12 (NLT) "The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil."

·       God purposefully watches over us when we do right and turns away when we do wrong.

o     That teaches us true perseverance.

·       Watches over us not to make sure we do right but because we are doing right.

o     Turns away from us not because of the shame but because it is sinful.

§       God loves you but can not, will not, wink at our sin to okay it.

§       Legal does not make something moral.

·       Praying more doesn't mean that you can sin more in fact it will make you sin less.

·       God desires us to be a people of conviction and compassionate.

o     God never meant for us to compartmentalize our lives into secular and spiritual.

·       People who pray know the heart of God, hear the heart of God from His own lips, and react to the rhythms of God by doing.

·       Prayer is private power for public purpose.

o     Prayer is communication that will motivate, challenge and prepare you for the miraculous.

Purity Passion Week 1 Seven

These seven words can relate to your life in whatever spiritual season you find yourself in. They are the core calues of my life and our student ministry.

• Purity-Before God and Men
• Passion-Worship/Service
• Perseverance-Living Christianity Out
• Prayer-Demonstration
• Presence-Discipleship
• Pursuit-God’s Word/Fasting/Giving
• People-Evangelism/Opportunity

I believe this series will encourage, grow, and inspire us to move forward into God's perfect plan for our lives, for His global church, and for those that need to know Christ.

Psalm 86:9-13 (NLT)
"All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name. [10] For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God. [11] Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. [12] With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever, [13] for your love for me is very great. You have rescued me from the depths of death."

1. Love for God motivates purity.

  • When you have a right relationship with God purity begins a work in you.
    • When purity begins that work you know it, you feel it, you hear it, you see it, and it changes you as you respond to it.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"

2. Love is motivated by belief, love is motivated by gratitude, love is motivated by biblical truth.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)
"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud [5] or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. [6] It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. [7] Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."

1. Purity requires that you remove all the things that dilute and taint you.

Proverbs 17:3 (NLT)
"Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart."

  • Purity in God is kept, created and obtained through worship, prayer, bible reading, serving, discipleship, Godly relationships, hearing and applying the word of God.
    • To be used of God mightily, passionately, purposefully, purity is a requirement, prerequisite.
  • Your purity before God and men is directly linked to your passionate assignment for Him.
    • You purify yourself and your assignment will overtake you.
      • Purity is private.
    • God has chosen you, called you, ordained (ordered and issued) you to become pure before Him.
    2. Passion
      • Passion is external.
      • Passion is contagious like a disease.
        • Working for God will never take the place of worshipping God.
      • Over 2,000 ago a group of people with no smart phones, no internet access, no social networking, and no bus routes were commanded by Jesus to reach the world.
        • And instead of making excuses they simply got passionate went “All In”…and our world has NEVER been the same!
          • It has happened before…what if it happened again?
          • This year?
            • At Solid Rock? At Youthrock?
    • I can promise you this...
      • It would impact your life in ways you could never imagine as you simply did not “attend” but rather learned how to ENGAGE!
      • It would impact this church in that we would take giant leaps in our quest to reach 2,500 people for Christ.
      • It would impact family members and friends whom we deeply care about.

      • 1 Chronicles 13 David trying to move the purity, passion and presence of God in a new way.

      1 Chronicles 15:12-15 (NLT)
"He said to them, "You are the leaders of the Levite families. You must purify yourselves and all your fellow Levites, so you can bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. [13] Because you Levites did not carry the Ark the first time, the anger of the Lord our God burst out against us. We failed to ask God how to move it properly." [14] So the priests and the Levites purified themselves in order to bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to Jerusalem.

[15] Then the Levites carried the Ark of God on their shoulders with its carrying poles, just as the Lord had instructed Moses."

    • The presence of God must be individually carried upon the man/woman of God's shoulders.
      • Responsibility, accountability, purity, and passion.
        • Individually.
          • We have to properly carry the presence of God, He will not be carried without purity, and will not be carried without passion.
          • He has policies, procedures, a code of conduct if you will that must be intricately followed.
        • Then Israel rejoiced because when properly handled into God's procedures He will help you carry the weight, the burdens, the pressure, but only as we follow His will.
    1 Chronicles 15:26 (NLT)
"And because God was clearly helping the Levites as they carried the Ark of the Lord's Covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams."

    • God does His part when(denotes a specific moment in time) we do our part.
      • Purity is our part.
      • Passion is our part.
    • His presence, His power, His healing, His restoration, His will, His timing, His blessing, His forgiveness, is His part.

    1 Chronicles 13:14 (NLT)
"The Ark of God remained there in Obed-edom's house for three months, and the Lord blessed the household of Obed-edom and everything he owned."

      • Where purity and passion are the presence of God dwells and where dwells the presence of God will dwell blessings on everything you own.

    Top of the hill

I believe that the "top of the hill" is always a testing time, that God is constantly calling us to, and the devil constantly trying to keep us from.

    Exodus 17:8-12 (NLT)

"While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them. [9] Moses commanded Joshua, "Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand." [10] So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. [11] As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. [12] Moses' arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset."

Joshua and the chosen men went to battle.
Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill...
Our battle is physical (Joshua, Jesus) and spiritual, (prayerful Moses, God.)

1.Why go to the top of the hill?

Moses said to Joshua, "Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand."

1.Amalek came and fought with Israel. This was an unprovoked attack by Amalek against Israel.

1.The method of attack used by Amalek was despicable.

Deuteronomy 25:17-18 (NLT) "Never forget what the Amalekites did to you as you came from Egypt. [18] They attacked you when you were exhausted and weary, and they struck down those who were straggling behind. They had no fear of God."

1.The devil attacks you from behind never wanting to face you knowing that if you were to see him coming you would turn to God but since he sneaks up on us many times we aren't ready.

2.He'll attack you when your tired, weary, frustrated, or sinful.

1.There is a vision for your life at the top of the hill.

1.There is a passion for your future at the top of the hill.

2.There is direction at the top of the hill.

3.There is inspiration at the top of the hill.

4.Ever been so discouraged but came into a conference, a church service, a worship service, or had a personal encounter with God that altered you forever?

2.There is life at the top of the hill.

2.How do I get to the top of the hill?

1.7 core values that will always take you up.

2.I have found these 7 things to always take me to the next level in God.

    1.Purity-Before God and Men

    2.Passion-Worship/Service

    3.Perseverance-Living Christianity Out

    4.Prayer-Demonstration

    5.Presence-Discipleship

    6.Pursuit-Gods Word/Fasting/Giving

    7.People-Evangelism/Opportunity

3.Moses supported the battle behind the scenes, busy in prayer.

1.The fate of Israel in battle depended on Moses' intercession because when he prayed Israel prevailed and when he stopped praying Amalek prevailed.

1.Held up his hand:describes the Israelite posture of prayer. Action.

1.Though this was Moses' work to do, it was more than he could do by himself.

2.He needed others to come by his side and strengthen him in prayer.

2.This amazing passage shows us that life or death for Israel depended on prayer.

1.Moses prayed as we should pray, with passion, believing that life and death, perhaps eternity, depends on prayer.

1.This amazing passage shows us the great importance of prayer.

2.Life and death-the course of history itself-depended upon prayer.

3.We can conclude that many times the people of God are defeated today because they will not pray, or their work is not supported by prayer.

2.We are to pray for our family, our friends, our neighbors, and even our enemies.

1.The Devil will throw up your past to make you ashamed of what you've done or what has been done to you.

Colossians 4:2 (NLT) "Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart."

1.Because Joshua followed God's plan the bible said he overwhelmed the enemy in battle.

    Exodus 17:13-16 (NLT)
"As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle. [14] After the victory, the Lord instructed Moses, "Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven." [15] Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi (which means "the Lord is my banner"). [16] He said, "They have raised their fist against the Lord's throne, so now the Lord will be at war with Amalek generation after generation."

1.Joshua served God and Moses faithfully.

1.We are to serve God and the global church faithfully.

2.We are to serve God and our leaders faithfully.

3.We are to serve God and each other faithfully.

2.God brings victory to Israel over the Amalekites.

1.God will bring you victory over your enemies, all of them.

2.What enemy do you face? Etc.

1.Whatever it is, God wants you to conquer.

2.He has done his part now we must do ours.

3.He then tells them to memorialize their victory.

    1.Read it aloud.

    2.Talk about the victory.

    3.Declare the victory.

4.Be excited about winning over the enemy.

5.He has given us power over all...of...our...enemies.

3.It is imperative, vital, and crucial that we travel to the top of the hill.

Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) "You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. [15] No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. [16] In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."

1.People will see what you are doing on the top of the hill.

1.You will be a witness on top of the hill.

2.A city that is set on an hill.

3.Anciently cities, for the sake of defense, were placed on hills.

4.Such cities are seen from afar.

5.So must the church give forth its light.

2.The business of the church is not only to save, but to enlighten.

3.Christ is light, and his disciples must be light.

4.Salt operates internally, changing everything it comes in contact with, sunlight operates externally, illuminating all.

1.We have to stop hiding in the shadows.

2.We have to stop backing down from the battle.

3.We have to step up for our God, our families, our world.

Isaiah 54:17 (NLT) "But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!"

1.Joshua did all that God called of him.

    2.Held nothing back.

Joshua 11:15 (NLT) "As the Lord had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. And Joshua did as he was told, carefully obeying all the commands that the Lord had given to Moses."

1.When Moses died Aaron and Hur got to handle disputes, Joshua became Israel's leader.

2.Joshua when he died was buried on this side of the border of all that he had conquered for God.

Judges 2:8-9 (NLT) "Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110. [9] They buried him in the land he had been allocated, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash."

1.I beg you tonight to climb with me.

2.I encourage you tonight, climb for Him.

3.Climb to the top of the hill.

4.Climb for yourself, climb...for your unsaved mother, father, sister, brother, friend,...enemy.

5.Let's rise above the circumstances, rise above our enemy, above the past, the present, and move into the future.

    1.Next Level.

    Psalm 62:6-7 (NLT)
"He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. [7] My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me."
