3 reasons your thoughts will affect your performance

If you’ve ever been at a great height and had someone tell you, “Don’t look down!”  then you already understand this concept you will focus on and be drawn towards what you allow to dominate your thoughts. These are 3 reasons your thoughts will affect your performance.

3 THOUGHTS YOU MUST KEEP OUT

If your thoughts affect your focus and your focus determines your direction. Then here are 3 thoughts that you must keep out so you can keep moving in the right direction

1.     What if I fail?  Don’t spend your time thinking about failure think about what it takes to win. Allowing yourself to think about failure makes the event about how you will look or whom you will let down instead of being about doing your best for Christ.

2.     What do others think about me?

o       Fans and spectators will always have contrasting opinions. But, good or bad the opinions of other people cannot score points or win souls into heaven.

o       If you study hard, pray hard, keep your character strong and always give your best effort, the results will speak for themselves.

o       I don’t care what the world says about me.

o       I don’t care what my enemies say about me.

o       I don’t even care what my friends say about me.

o       I only believe and concern myself with what God says about me. What Christ has to say about me.

o       Their words are eternal.

o       Their words about me are words, promises, statements made from heaven itself, the creators of all the universe and everything in it. And their comments will last forever.

James 3

3.     “What about my past?”

o       Whether you have missed your mark one time or 100 times, dwelling on that will only keep you from reaching your goal again.

o       Replace those thoughts by thinking about how good it will be in succeeding in your goals and passions.

o       Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes so they can enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. 15 Outside the city are the dogs--the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.”

o       Jesus Christ our example preached what He lived and lived what He preached.

o       He didn’t tell people to pray and not pray Himself.

o       He didn’t tell people to read their bibles and not spend time devoting Him self to His.

o       He didn’t tell people not to judge each other and go and be judgmental.

o       He didn’t tell people to heal the sick, raise the dead, bless those that curse you bless and curse not and not be caught doing these things DAILY!

o       Jesus Christ was a living, breathing, walking talking example of how to treat all of humanity and how to live supernaturally..

o       He always spoke truth, and continually lived the truth.

John 21:25”And I suppose that if all the other things Jesus did were written down, the whole world could not contain the books.”

Pressure

Pressure is a very weird obstacle to overcome.
Pressure makes some people function better and paralyzes others.
Pressure is found in our every day lives.
Pressure is found in our jobs, in our school work, in our relationships, in our friendships, in our families, in our minds and will definitely be a part of our future.
Releasing that pressure in the right way and at the right time is our ultimate goal.

2 types of pressure we are going to talk about they are Building and Killing.

1. What is an example of building pressure?
  • Pressure to do what is right, attend church, accountability.
  • Building pressure is the good kind of pressure that will ensure your future is successful.
  • Building pressure is doing right because others are counting on you.
  • Building pressure does just that it builds you.
    • It builds character, it builds a good reputation, it builds spirituality, it builds strength physically/spiritually/emotionally.
    • Building pressure is what will catapult you into your future because your foundation is solid.
      • No solidification then no future.
    • Many people have a continuation of destruction in their relationship to God because they refuse to build on a good foundation.
    • Building pressure is you choosing the right friends, right relationships, right paths to follow in this life.
      • Those friends that tell you the truth, those family members who see your greatest potential and not your greatest weaknesses.
John 14:6 (NLT) "Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."

2. What is an example of killing pressure?
Pressure to do what is wrong, drink, language(foul and negative), smoke, people who pull you away from God, not toward.

Proverbs 24:10 (NLT) "If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small."

  • This is amazing yet so scary to me humans dwell in this pressure to compete, pressure to outdo, pressure to try to be better than any other human out there and I define that as a killing pressure.
    • This type of pressure kills your dreams, kills your potential, kills your spirit, kills your mindset, kills your individuality.
      • Healthy competition is great on any level but don't misunderstand what I'm saying here.
What are some ways to overcome pressure others put on us?
  • Be confident in your mission.
  • Be unique not engaged in being everyone else.
  • Don't fulfill the killing pressure.
    • I believe that spending all my time trying to mimic who, what, why, and where everyone else is, is sin.
    • God designed me to be me for Him.
    • Be unique for Him, His purposes, His design for my life.
1 Corinthians 15:33-34 (NLT) "Don't be fooled by those who say such things, for "bad company corrupts good character."

What are some of the ways we bring the pressure from others upon ourselves?
  • Hypocritical living is the Christians worst nightmare.
    • Hypocritical-Professing qualities you don't possess or are in contradiction to.
    • The greatest single cause of atheism are Christians who say one thing with their mouths and walk out the door and live out another.
    • When you say what you are stay what you are, live out what you are, there is a cause within you dying to get out!

Building pressure is again our goal.

1 Corinthians 15:57 (NLT) "But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT) "So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless."

What promise does the Bible give us if we can stay faithful to God’s Word and not give into the pressure we face daily?

Matthew 9:17 (NLT) "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved."
  • Jesus explains that He has come not to "patch up" the old institutions of Judaism, but to institute a new covenant altogether.
  • The new covenant doesn’t just patch up the old; it supersedes it.
  • They put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved: Jesus’ reference to the wineskins is His announcement that the present institutions of Judaism could not, and would not, contain His new wine.
    • He would form a new institution, "The Church, which would bring Jew and Gentile together into a completely new body. (Ephesians 2:16)
  • Not just rules and regulations but grace, mercy, truth and eternal life through Jesus Christ.
  • God's eternal plan destroying the works of the flesh.
    • Earning goodness, holiness, and Godliness was no longer given through the law but through Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus reminds us that what is old and stagnant often cannot be renewed.
  • God will often look for new vessels to contain His new work, until those vessels make themselves unusable.
Remain mold able not moldy for God to continue to use you.

Genesis 39:10 (NLT)"She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible."

Psalm 119:143-144 (NLT) "143 As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands. 144 Your laws are always right; help me to understand them so I may live."

When the pressure is Great allow God to be greater.
When the stress is great allow God to be greater.
When the depression is great allow God to be greater.
When the demands are great allow God to help you carry them.

Matthew 11:28 (NLT) "Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."

The Declaration

1.Declaration-An explicit, formal announcement, either oral or written. Law

a. A formal statement by a plaintiff specifying the facts and circumstances constituting his or her cause of action.

b. An unsworn statement of facts that is admissible as evidence.

Lamentations 1:9 She defiled herself with immorality and gave no thought to her future. Now she lies in the gutter with no one to lift her out. "LORD, see my misery," she cries. "The enemy has triumphed."

Immorality(sin, wickedness, corruption, dishonesty) will leave you future less.

Hollywood parties like a rock star yet we seemingly never hear the stories of depression, loneliness, suicide, sadness, nervous breakdowns, and destruction.

o     They show us the pictures of what sells and Selfishness sells.

o     Momentary happiness sells.

o     Heart doesnt sell anymore.

o     Character, integrity, truth, purity, and Godliness dont sell.

      They barely exist.

o     Partying sells, sex sells, immorality sells, destruction sells, and we are buying.

Some of the church feels they can live like they, want, hurt who they want say whatever they want, drink, smoke, sleep with whomever they want and then there be no repercussions.

o     But that is just not the truth of God or Gods word.

Galatians 6:5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct. 7 Don't be misledyou cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.

We have to commit to the process of God.

o     I am responsible to God for my own conduct.

Commit to the process of change.

      Change takes time.

      Life alteration takes time.

Commit to the process of Gods word.

      Commit to worship.

      Commit to prayer.

o     I will be judged by God for every word, every action, and every deed.

o     Gods heart beats justice.

Justice- the quality of being just, impartial, or fair, conformity to truth, fact, or reason.

I am not perfect but I am not what I use to be

o     Hopeless, helpless, I felt like no one loved me which made me feel homeless, lost and distant from God.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

2.Gods heart for my future I believe is filled with blessings and not curses.

c. Gods desire is not to punish you, hurt you, hate on you He has plans that are good.

d.God wants to ruin all my fun.

e. Thats not true God wants you to have a rich and satisfying life.

i.  Rich and satisfying is not unethical, illegal, or immoral.

John 10:10 The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

f.    Gods heart for your future is bright.

g.Gods heart for my future I believe is filled with the impossible.

h.Gods heart for your future is unimaginable.

i.     It will have problems it will have difficulties, it will not always be Disneyland when you live life as a Christian.

i.  Gods heart for my future would astound, astonish, shock, and utterly overwhelm me if I knew what God had planned for me.

2.Friends Without Benefits by Ron Luce.

i.     On average, a sexual scene occurs on TV 6.7 times per hour during the regular family viewing hours.

j.    In fact, on MTV there are 3,000 sexual references each week.

i.  Think about that: 3,000 messages a week telling us in subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways how we should think about sex and how we should be involved in it right now before were married.

k. People declare, Sex is just what people do-particularly young people with raging hormones.

i.  So lets get this straight: We can train our dog not to go to the bathroom inside the house, but we cant train ourselves to say no?

l.     The broader picture is that those in the media who produce content for teens (such as those at MTV) have a picture of what they want to make young people into.

m.                    For guys, this picture is a mook/pimp-a gross and immature perverted young adolescent.

i.  Somehow, they claim, acting this way will make you feel like a man.

ii.                       It is as if they are trying to train you to be a dog.

n.Ladies they have a word for you, too:midriff. Slore-slut whore combo

i.  They want you to act older than what you are, strut what you have, and turn the guys heads, as if somehow that will make you feel more important and valued.

ii.                       Once you have given away everything you can possibly give away-your body, emotions, heart, purity, modesty,-you will still feel empty and used by guys, used by the culture, and used by society.

o.You would think that with all these messages floating around we would have a very happy and satisfied culture.

p.However, this is simply not the case.

q.In fact, the data shows that people who sleep around and do what the culture tells them to do tend to be far less happy than those who have been married for several years and stayed true to having sex only with each other.

i.  We see more heartbreak, diseases and brokenness than ever before.

r.   You dont even have to look at the data-just look at all the stories, the tear stained eyes of the families who have been broken up, and the romances that have been shattered after everybody has given to each other all the sexual intimacy they can possibly give.

i.  Whatever the culture is telling us, the answer is obvious: there must be a better way.

3.You have been given sexual passion in order to express your love in a passionate way to the one you marry.

i.     Any other way of releasing that sexual passion robs the person you will marry one day of that love.

j.    It belongs only to him or her.

k. Practicing self-control in this area of your life will help you ensure that you will have an amazing sex life once you are married.

4.What teens wish their parents had told them about sex?

i.     The struggles were not addressed. I wish my parents would have told me how hard it is to remain pure. I wish they would have told me how they overcame their own temptations at my age or how they failed.

j.    I wish they would have told me how easy it is to slip and go from making out to losing your virginity. No one ever explained to me how fast and crazy it can be with all your hormones going.

k. There was no talk. I wish I would have known the importance of purity.

Job 31:1 1 "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.

5.My declaration to the world is sooooo important!!!

i.     My relationship to my wife and children is the greatest witness I have to the world of my love for Christ.

j.    Love your family then you love your God.

i.  The enemies plan for you is to divide and conquer.

ii.                       Are you ready to combat him for your future, your purpose, your destiny?

James 4:7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

bb.                 Every other sin you can speak the faith filled words Resist the devil and he will flee.

i.  But when it comes to sexual sin it says You run, You flee, you can not handle this stuff.

Romans 7:14 So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. 15 I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate. 16 But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. 17 So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. 18 And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 20 But if I do what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. 21 I have discovered this principle of lifethat when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God's law with all my heart. 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

2.Pornography in our day and age is massive.

bb.                 Sexual immorality in our day and age is in this nation is massive.

cc.                   The addiction rate in America is about 10% of the general population struggle with pornography.

i.  If we were to compare that with other forms of addiction like, drugs, gambling, alcoholism, hey 10% is by far the biggest addiction know to man.

ii.                       When it comes to Christian families that statistic 10% jumps to a whopping 47% nearly 5 times the nations rate comparing us inside the church to those outside the church.

1.1 in 3 are female.

2.Every day people say whats the big deal, make love not war man.

3.But those inside the church and its influence we know that we know that we know this is wrong and destructive.

Romans 12:2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Ephesians 6:10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

ee.                  Make a declaration tonight.

ff.                        Make a law tonight in your life and declare it. I take my stand.

gg.                 Make a formal statement tonight in the face of your enemy.
