Guard Your Heart week3

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
It's the issues of your heart, not the circumstances of your life, that determine future boundaries.

How to have the RIGHT heart!
WHO determines if our heart is right? God.
WE look into the Word of God it and it shows us our real condition.

Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT) Jesus replied, "'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' [40] The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."

I. An HONORING Heart
1.Is having a heart that CRYS out to God, YOU GOD are the priority above ANYTHING in my life!
i. There is no hobby, person, place or thing that has my ATTENTION and FOCUS like God!

2.WORSHIP is the ULTIMATE EXPRESSION of WHAT or WHO you honor.
i. God is my OBJECT of WORSHIP!
1.You can tell this by the LIFE that someone livesnot the way they YELL, SHOUT, or TESTIFY, etc.

3.You GAGE a heart that is HONORING by their LIFESTYLEnot their service!
i. EXAMPLE: Abrahamthe FATHER of FAITHPROVED his faith by his ACTIONShe left his home to pursue Gods greater purpose for his life and future. He left what was COMFY, ROUTINE and SECURE!
ii. His actions brought HONOR to God.
II. An OBEDIENT Heart!
1.Jesus says it very plainly in John 14 and 15 when he says IF YOU LOVE MEyou will OBEY what I ask.
2.OBEYING Gods Commands are the VITAL SIGNS of our life with Christ!
i. Trained professionals can listen to your heart to tell if you have an irregular beat pattern.

I Samuel 15 God tells Saul to wipe out the Amalekites, but Saul DISOBEYED and spared the enemy King and best of the livestock. God said in verse 10-11 I am GRIEVED that I made Saul King because he has TURNED AWAY from me…”
We need to follow God's simple, clear instructions.

I Samuel 15:22 Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in OBEYING his voice? To OBEY is better than sacrifice.

3.We are not talking about a GOD of RULESbut a God who is LOVE!

4.By our SINFUL choices we end up crushing and destroying our future.
i. People destroy their family by selfishness, addiction, adultery, lying, stealing, unbelief, etc.
5.It is this simple: IF they would have OBEYED the Word of God and not given in to their desires or handled their pain/hurts by drowning out the problemthen they wouldn't be in their current situation.
i. An OBEDIENT heart is a right heart and a right heart CONQUERS SIN!

6.Back to Saul the King of Israel who just royally messed up his life. Since he did not Honor God, was disobedient, and thankless we see later where he ends up killing himself and committing suicide!
i. This was the "man of God" at one time!

7.WOW - But realize that the failure of his RIGHT HEART hurt more than just him. Because of not having a Guarded Heartthe KINGSHIP passed by ALL of HIS children (Descendants) and went straight to DAVID, a man who wasn't his son but had a surrendered heart before God.
i. Satan wants you to operate in and develop the WRONG HEART!

Proverbs 27:19 As water reflects the face, so a mans heart reflects or shows the man!

There are things that you can look atwhat you SAYyour ATTITUDE, your BEHAVIORthese SHOW the real you!
We are to search daily into our lives for the right heart.

I. The DOUBTING Heart.

1.A heart that knows that God is speaking to it and it is UNWILLING to act.

James 1:6 We must believe and not DOUBT because he who DOUBTS is like a wave of the sea, being blown and tossed like the wind. This man has no reward from the Lord and is double minded and is UNSTABLE in ALL he does.
2. When a heart Doubtsit simply bounces BACK and FORTH between relying on God and then relying on self.

Jonah 4:1-6 Jonah had God tell him to go to Nineveh, but he RAN and preferred that Nineveh be destroyed instead of Repent. It went beyond disobedience; Jonah wanted HIS WAY and would not YIELD to God!
3.It is impossible to follow the direction of a person who is like this.

How do we AVOID this heart?
#1. What ever God speaks to YOUR HEART will ALWAYS be CONFIRMED by His Word or not!
#2. Once we have Gods promises in our heartswe MUST ACT on these promises. James tells us that Faith WITHOUT Action is dead. This is a heart that TRUSTS!
#3. You must deal with your Doubt.
A Heart that Trusts God will live in EXPECTATIONnot ANXIETY!
The PRIDEFUL Heart!
You either have a heart that HONORS God or a prideful heart they are exact opposites.
Pride is the very first sin ever committed by the Worship Leader of God in HeavenLuciferAKA Satan! His Heart was full of HIMSELF! He said IN HIS HEART I will have the Throne of God.
Its about YOU always knowing everything, not needing Gods direction or touch.
This proud heart can magnify the sins of another and IGNORE the same Holy Spirit showing it in their OWN LIFE!
o It is about you and GOD!

Matthew 23:27 (NLT) "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs-beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity."
The religious people and leaders (the ones who knew the scriptures and prophecies) had hearts CONTROLLED by pride.
He said YOU look GOOD on the outside, but the real you, is DEAD and full of evil on the inside."

Proverbs 6:16-19 puts it this way about a PRIDEFUL HeartIt is @ the TOP of the list for things that God HATES!

God requires A SURRENDERED HEART.

When my heart is messed up I can't function the way God intended.

Here is the thing about GOD that I loveHE IS the SOLUTION for any kind of HEART condition!

Guard your heart/2

GUARD your HEART week 2

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

There is in the word of God a proper remedy for all diseases of the soul.

Above all else guard your heart.

We must set a strict guard upon our souls; keep our hearts from doing hurt, and getting hurt.
Question Is it possible to have a BLAMELESS heart before God?

Genesis 17:1 God told Abraham to walk before him BLAMELESS.

Duet 18:13 God said to the children of Israel You MUST be blameless before me.

Psalm 101:2 David said I will be CAREFUL to live a blameless lifewhen will you come to help me Lord.

Matthew 5:48 You are to be perfect even as your Heavenly Father is perfect."

BLAMELESS does not mean a sinless or flawless heart!
See when you receive Salvation, you get a NEW HEART.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

After Salvation you and I still need WORK!

So having a Blameless Heart is simply keeping your heart in RIGHT PLACE with God.

DAVID's life was 4 ever marked with Adultery and Murderyet when you read Psalm 51 you see the CRY of his heart to have forgiveness.

2. A Blameless heart is a RESPONSIVE HEART!

Your heart QUICKLY answers to the HOLY SPIRITS whispers or warnings.

Your heart must stay RESPONSIVEquick to respond to WHATEVER He tells you.

Whether it is a temptation that you are facingthe Holy Spirit will immediately give you a way outyou just have to listen to Him!
We cannot IGNORE the Holy Spirit.

HOW do YOU and I KEEP a BLAMELESS HEARTa heart that GOD is pleased with EVERY DAY?

3. Your heart must stay SEARCHABLE!

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NLT) "And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever."

Psalm 139:23 "Search me Oh God and KNOW my Hearttest me and know my anxious thoughts, POINT OUT anything in me that offends you and lead me along the right path.

EXAMPLE:Our HEART is a HOTEL with many rooms and behind every door is somethingGod wants the KEYS to every room!

Giving Jesus the KEYS to your life will UNLOCK HIS power and plan in you.

THE PROBLEM is that PEOPLE love their SECRETS or are so ashamed of them but either way they keep them HIDDEN.
      The RESULT:
Isaiah 29:15 (NLT) "What sorrow awaits those who try to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their evil deeds in the dark! "The Lord can't see us," they say. "He doesn't know what's going on!"

The BLAMELESS HEART wants the HOLY SPIRIT to SEARCH it!

The BLAMELESS HEART wants the Holy Spirit to SHINE the light on ANYTHING that is not right with God!

The BLAMELESS HEART wants the Holy Spirit to DIG and EXAMINE and EXPOSE anything that does not please our Lord.
4. If you have this kind of heart, a right heart before God...here are the results:

Isaiah 6:5 Its all over, I am doomed, I am a sinful man. I have filthy lipsverse 7 then his lips were touched, the guilt removed and he was forgivenWOW!
Don't get MAD at GOD for showing you your junkbe thankful that you can still feel his touch and that He still changes hearts!
Jesus does not give you a COVERINGHe gives you a CLEANSING!  (Huge difference)
The cover me thing is just for a QUICK FIX.

No CROSS + No PAIN=No CLEANSING!

The WORD of GOD is what convicts us, GROWS us, and CLEANSES us, on a DAILY BASIS!

Bottom linewe need to be searched everyday!

I John 1:6-7 Teaches that we are CLEANSED from all sin.
Gods purpose for SEARCHING our hearts is not to CATCH you in your sinbut rather to CLEANSE you from your sin!

Matthew 5:8 God blesses those whose HEARTS are PURE, for they WILL SEE GOD!"

1 Timothy 4:11-16 (NLT)
"Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them. [12] Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. [13] Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them. [14] Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you. [15] Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. [16] Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you."
